Grants Approved by SEM
Tuesday, 9 Feb 2021
At our most recent SEM meeting, grants were approved for a variety of equipment.
Gaeta Rural Fire Brigade in the Bundaberg RFSQ area was successful with their application for a washing machine (for PPE), along with a fridge and dishwasher for their shed. With 36 members, Gaeta RFB services an area of 39.95 sqkm, which the local Area Director notes as "being considerable distance from the nearest larger townships of Bundaberg and Gin Gin for supplies and services". The brigade actively supports local landholders and neighbouring brigades alike. Previously the brigade has been successful in obtaining grants from RFBAQ for an equipment upgrade, rainwater tanks, safety signage, a SatSleeve hotspot, an air compressor, iPad and case.
Clohsey Rural Fire Group in the Cairns Peninsual RFSQ area was successful with their application for a generator and accessories. Combined with another small generator, this will replace the existing large unit the Group relies on to power their 'Cookie Van' (a mobile catering unit run by volunteers for volunteers). The Group is comprised of Davies Creek RFB, Koah RFB, Speewah RFB and Kuranda Myola RFB. The local Area Director in support of the Group's application states "they are a shining example of what a Rural Fire Group can achieve by working together'. Previously the Group has obtained grants from the RFBAQ for a data projector and a laptop.
Congratulation letters are being sent to Brigade and Group, with instructions for how to move forward with their grants.
