In 2020 both brigades were PPB classification without stations or trucks.
Both brigades are on the Bruce Highway between The Caves and Sarina and both brigades were being called out repeatedly to fires and car accidents on the Bruce Highway using their own private vehicles. It just wasn’t safe or justifiable to expose anyone to those dangers.
Both brigades received a 100% donation funded Landcruiser light attack from the RFBAQ.
The next challenge was to put a building around these trucks and that was finalised yesterday with both stations being 100% funded by the RFSQ. The Kunwarara is 100% off grid.
Neither brigade receive a Rural Fire Levy; Ogmore RFB makes some money from roadside burning and Kunwarara RFB does a regular sausage sizzle that brings in their brigade money.
Both openings yesterday were a demonstration of how local people can keep building and growing their community defence capabilities to meet their needs if their support organisations are open to change.
Both openings were well attended by the local brigade and community, local government, the local state MP Stephen Andrew, RFSQ staff and RFBAQ reps.
Rockhampton RFBAQ rep Robert Lang presented retiring firefighter / Chairman Trevor Pullen with a framed photo and thankyou for 37 years of dedication to Ogmore RFB and local community.
Looking through the photos, you can see that slip on units and trailers are still very much in use and very popular in regional and rural Queensland.
